Bronze Award

Bronze: fun with friends

Bronze is the first level of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. You can start in the school year you turn 14, and it's designed as an accessible first step — no previous experience needed.

What you'll do

The four Bronze sections

You choose your own activities for Volunteering, Physical and Skills, and pick one of them to do for 6 months instead of 3. You decide which before you start, but you can change your mind later.

Volunteering — 3 months

Give your time to help people, your community or the environment.

Physical — 3 months

Get active with a sport, dance or fitness activity of your choice and track your improvement.

Skills — 3 months

Develop a talent or hobby you already love, or try something completely new.

Expedition — 2 days, 1 night

Plan, train for and complete an adventurous journey as a small team.

Expedition

Your Bronze expedition

2 days and 1 night

The assessed expedition lasts a minimum of 2 days, with 1 night camping.

6 hours of planned activity a day

At least 6 hours each day, with at least half of that spent journeying.

Training and practice first

Havant ODC leaders train your team in navigation, camp craft and first aid, and run a practice expedition before the assessment.
