What you'll do

The five Gold sections

Volunteering lasts 12 months. Of Physical and Skills, you choose one to do for 12 months and the other for 6. If you're starting at Gold without a Silver Award, you add another 6 months to Volunteering or to your longer Physical or Skills section, so the programme takes at least 18 months.

Volunteering — 12 months

Give your time to help people, your community or the environment.

Physical — 6 or 12 months

Get active with a sport, dance or fitness activity of your choice and track your improvement.

Skills — 6 or 12 months

Develop a talent or hobby you already love, or try something completely new.

Expedition — 4 days, 3 nights

Plan, train for and complete an adventurous journey as a small team.

Residential — 5 days, 4 nights

Take part in a shared activity away from home, with people you don't already know.

Expedition

Your Gold expedition

4 days and 3 nights

The assessed expedition lasts a minimum of 4 days, with 3 nights camping.

8 hours of planned activity a day

At least 8 hours each day, with at least half of that spent journeying.

Training and practice first

Havant ODC leaders prepare your team for a more demanding journey and run a practice expedition before the assessment.
